Resume Structure Step by Step

1A 3-line profile: years in the trade, focus (heating, ventilation, sanitary), system types.
2Name trades explicitly: heating, ventilation, sanitary, air conditioning, heat pump, solar thermal.
3List certificates: refrigerant licence, gas certificate, qualified electrician for defined tasks.
4State a class B driving licence; for field service it is effectively a prerequisite.

Recruiter Tips for HVAC Technician Resumes

1Name trades explicitly. "Building services" as a catch-all fails every ATS filter.
2Put heat pump experience visibly near the top; it is the strongest current differentiator.
3Refrigerant and gas certificates are hard selection criteria, not decoration.
4State a class B driving licence; for field service it is effectively a prerequisite.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

✕Generic "building services" with no trades named, which makes fit impossible to assess.
✕No unit counts; 120 systems installed says more than 8 years of experience.
✕Certificates left off, though they are often the first filter criterion.
✕Gaps in the timeline; German employers expect a gap-free history.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should an HVAC technician CV be?+

1 to 2 pages, table-style and gap-free. Trades, system types and certificates go near the top, followed by training and driving licence.

Which systems and trades belong on the CV?+

Name them explicitly: heating, ventilation, sanitary, air conditioning, plus heat pumps and solar thermal. "Building services" as a catch-all cannot be assessed by an ATS or an employer.

How important is heat pump experience?+

It is currently the strongest differentiator. State the number and type of units installed; that is what employers search for.

Which ATS keywords matter for HVAC technicians?+

HVAC Technician / Anlagenmechaniker SHK, heating systems, ventilation, heat pump, commissioning and maintenance. Use both the German and the English form.

Do the driving licence and certificates belong on the CV?+

Yes, both. A class B licence is effectively a prerequisite for field service, and refrigerant or gas certificates are hard selection criteria.
