How do you pick the right example?

These four criteria help you find the right sample for your application.

By job title

Pick the example whose title is closest to the role you are targeting, not your current one. Applying as a senior, take the senior sample.

By experience level

Under 3 years: 1 page, focus on education and projects. From 5 years: 2 pages, focus on measurable results and responsibility.

By industry

Tech mixes German and English, the classic Mittelstand stays German, healthcare and education value certificates and recognitions.

By application language

German for German ads, English for English ads. For bilingual roles, use the language of the ad and state the other level by CEFR.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about resume examples

Answers for the German job market, as of January 2026.

May I copy a resume example directly?+
Use the structure, order and phrasing help as a starting point, but replace all content with your own details. Recruiters spot copied samples immediately, especially stock phrases like “results-oriented team player”. The example is a scaffold, not a template to copy.
How long should a resume be in Germany?+
At most 2 pages. Under 5 years of experience, 1 page is ideal. German recruiters expect a table-style resume with a gap-free timeline. Trim older positions (10 years and more) to 1 to 2 lines, describe current roles with 3 to 4 quantified points.
Photo or no photo?+
Since the General Equal Treatment Act (AGG) a photo is optional. Include a professional photo for the classic Mittelstand, tend to omit it for international firms and startups. For English-language ads, almost always leave it out.
German or English: which language should I apply in?+
In the language of the job ad. For English ads an English resume is enough, but still state your German level by CEFR (e.g. German B2). For German ads, always submit a German resume, even if the team works in English.
Which ATS keywords matter?+
It depends on the role. Each of our examples includes an ATS keyword table with German and English variants. Recruiter tools filter both languages, so you should always use both in your resume.
